F.A.Q. About APT

Q. What is an apprentice?
A. A paid worker who is enrolled in a special training program administered by an employer, together with a labor organization or trade association.
   
Q. Why choose an Apprenticeship in the construction trade?
A. The construction industry offers a wide variety of exciting career options to young men and women.  It gives you an opportunity to learn a skilled trade through a paid apprenticeship program (earn while you learn).  Moreover, you will earn good wages, excellent fringe benefits and a wide range of opportunities for advancement.
   
Q. What is the Apprenticeship Preparedness Training Program administered at your organization?
A. The A.P.T. program is a training concept developed to provide inner-city youths and young adults with little or no marketable skills, an opportunity to become building trade apprentices. 
   
Q. What are the requirements to register for the Apprenticeship Preparedness Training Program?
A.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Original Social Security Card
  • Valid Drivers License or State Identification
  • Score at least an eighth grade level on a test given at registration.

Q. What is the Project Upgrade Construction Management, Estimating & Supervisory Training Program?
A. Project Upgrade is the first of its kind in the nation to prepare minority and female journey-level workers exclusively for supervisory opportunities in the construction industry. 
   
Q. What are the requirements to register for Project Upgrade?
A.
  1. You have to be in the union
  2. You need to fill out a application 
  3. Have to be nominated by your contractor or union official
Or nominated by a former graduate of Project Upgrade
   
Q. How long is the program?
A. Project Upgrade is a 26 week course with classes in the evenings on Tuesdays & Thursdays.
